Shakers shake Hatters

An early goal proved enough for Bury to win 1-0 at home to promotion rivals Luton and claim a fourth straight victory.

The Shakers were excellent in the first half and led through a ninth-minute header by Tom Soares.

Luton improved after the break, though, and almost equalised but Bury held on to go level with the Hatters in the League Two play-off places.

The Shakers made a fine start with Nathan Cameron heading over from Chris Hussey's corner before Danny Mayor tested visiting goalkeeper Elliot Justham.

Mayor then found Hussey on the overlap and the left-back's cross was perfectly measured for Soares to head home from six yards out.

Cameron had another header cleared off the line as Bury remained on top, while Andrew Tutte curled a free-kick just wide.

Luton struggled to create much until Luke Guttridge's 20-yard strike was superbly turned wide by Nick Pope.

Shakers substitute Ryan Lowe fired inches wide after the hour mark, before Pope had to make another fine save to deny Guttridge from close range.

And Pope secured victory when he dived full length to kept out Cameron McGeehan's header at the death.
