Nardiello gives Bury home comfort

Daniel Nardiello scored his first goal for Bury to clinch a vital 1-0 win against Hartlepool.

The on-loan Rotherham striker produced a sublime finish three minutes after half-time to end the Shakers' seven-game winless run at home.

It was a deserved win for Bury, who had also seen Nardiello spurn a golden chance early on when he chipped the ball straight into the arms of Pools goalkeeper Scott Flinders.

Dean Howell produced a vital block to keep out a shot from visiting forward James Poole before Flinders again denied Nardiello - parrying a stinging shot.

Craig Jones could not turn in an inviting Chris Sedgwick cross, instead firing wide of the post.

But Nardiello struck in the 48th minute, curling an unstoppable long-range shot into the corner of the net from the right-hand side.

Tom Soares failed to extend the lead with 10 minutes remaining as his close-range shot deflected agonisingly wide of the post.

It almost cost the Shakers but Howell was on hand again to clear an effort from Luke James off the line with three minutes remaining.
