Shakers edge closer to safety

Bury all-but secured npower League One survival after a 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

Mike Grella claimed the only goal of the game as the Shakers moved nine points clear of the relegation zone with just three games to play.

The goal came within 10 minutes, Miles Addison's mistake allowing Grella to get in behind the defence and clip a delightful finish over Darryl Flahavan.

But Bournemouth missed two gilt-edged chances to equalise before the break, both Wes Fogden and Addison off target with the goal at their mercy.

Still, Bury had their fair share of chances, Steven Schumacher seeing his ambitious 30-yard free-kick tipped over the bar by Flahavan.

Although Bournemouth enjoyed more possession in the second half, they rarely threatened, with Jonathan Bond making a comfortable save from Simon Francis.

With time running out, Bond ensured the three points with a stunning save to turn away Fogden's powerful shot.
