Blades keep pace at the top

Sheffield United strengthened their grip on the second automatic promotion place with a 3-0 win at Bury thanks to goals from Richard Cresswell, Ched Evans and Lee Williamson.

The Shakers, who went down to their first home defeat in the league since October 29, held their own in a goalless first half.

The Blades failed to build on their early pressure and almost conceded when goalkeeper Steve Simonson spilled Bury midfielder Steve Schumacher's long-range drive.

But after the break Cresswell sprang the offside trap to race on to Kevin McDonald's through ball and slot the ball calmly past Bury goalkeeper Cameron Belford.

Evans doubled the Blades' lead just after the hour, turning sharply inside the penalty area to slam the ball home at the near post.

Williamson completed the scoring nine minutes from time, drilling defender Matt Lowton's cut-back into the corner of the net.
