Bury have appointed Richie Barker as their new manager following a caretaker spell in which the club sealed promotion to npower League One.

The former Rotherham and Mansfield striker arrived at Gigg Lane in 2010 as head of youth. However, when Alan Knill left for Scunthorpe in April, Barker was appointed manager on a short-term basis and subsequently led Bury to six wins out of eight.

That run of form earned Barker the League Two manager of the month award for April, culminating in a 3-2 win at eventual champions Chesterfield which saw Bury seal promotion.
