Barker hails Shakers promotion

Caretaker manager Richie Barker described Bury`s promotion to League One as "surreal". The Shakers ensured they would be playing third-tier football next season after a thrilling 3-2 victory at Chesterfield, a win which denied the League Two leaders the title and left the race for top spot wide open with two matches remaining. Promotion comes less than a month after Alan Knill swapped Bury for Scunthorpe, leaving Barker in charge for the remainder of the campaign. And speaking after the triumph, Barker said: "It's a bit surreal to be honest. "I set out to win the game, I didn't think it was right to come here and try and get a point and at the end the ball fell to the best finisher in League Two. "I retired from playing two years ago and thought that was the last time anybody who ever sing my name so for it to happen again is brilliant."
