Alexander handed Shakers role

Bury have named the former Lincoln City and Peterborough United manager Keith Alexander as their new director of football. He left the Red Imps at the end of last season but struggled after being appointed manager at London Road, finally being axed in January. Shakers director Ian Harrop confirmed on the club's official website: "We wanted to get through the season, but we were concerned over one or two areas. "Once we were safe, it was a case of acting quickly if we want to move forward next season. "Keith will have a major input on player recruitment, and looking at his record at Lincoln, it speaks for itself. His contacts, not just in the non-league, but across football, are outstanding. Everyone I have spoken to has given him nothing but praise. "Chris (Casper) is still the first-team manager although his current role will obviously be redefined a little. "The experience that Keith has can only be of benefit to Chris, and will make him a better manager. He has been kept in contact all along, and will be our manager for the next two seasons and, hopefully, many more to come." Meanwhile, Casper has released Alan Fettis, Tom Kennedy, John Fitzgerald, Matthew Tipton, Tom Youngs, Chris Brass and Damian Quigley.
