Phillips signs on at Brewers

Burton Albion have completed the signing of young winger Jimmy Phillips on a two-year deal.

The 19-year-old becomes the eighth signing of the summer for the Football League newcomers.

Phillips was released by Premier League side Stoke City but has enjoyed a successful recent trial at the Pirelli Stadium.

Phillips could be thrusted into action in Burton's first match in League Two at Shrewsbury Town this weekend, as left-sided player Keith Gilroy is out of action for a month.

"Jimmy's shown some great technical ability and he's only a young lad," Brewers manager Paul Peschisolido told the Derby Evening Telegraph.

"He still has a lot to learn but he's looked fantastic for us throughout pre-season, both in training and in the games.

"I'm sure that he'll be a huge addition to the squad and he has more than earned his contract here.

"A lot of people couldn't believe that he was allowed to leave Stoke City but that has worked to our benefit because he looks like a star for the future."

Meanwhile, Peschisolido is hoping to tie up a deal to bring veteran defender Marc Edworthy to the club.
