Burton Albion player-manager Nigel Clough is on the trail of a proven goalscorer from a fellow Nationwide Conference side.
Clough is in the middle of a major re-vamp of his Eton Park squad and is hoping to add the unnamed 23-year-old to the Brewers' ranks.
He told the Derbyshire Evening Telegraph: "We're talking to a young striker who has scored goals at this level.
"We will also be having a good look through the PFA's list of released players but it's still very early.
"You can disregard a huge proportion of that list at our level as there are a lot of Premiership players who are out of contract.
"But we have brought in four players of an experienced standard before the list came out and we are delighted with that."
Clough has already signed Lee Colkin and Barry Williams, with Ian Wright and Jon Howard set to sign up in the near future.
