Burton's keeper worries ease
22 Jun 2009 - 13:36:57
Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido's fears of a goalkeeping shortage at the club have been reduced by the news that Kevin Poole is set to sign a new contract.
Burton were left without a contracted goalkeeper heading into their debut in League Two next season, as reserve keeper Sean Deeney is moving on from the Pirelli Stadium.
However, Poole is set to sign a new one-year contract when he returns from a holiday next week. He is also set to take up a coaching role with the club.
Peschisolido told the Burton Mail: "Kevin is on holiday at the moment but a contract has been agreed and should be signed next week.
"He will continue as a player but will also become part of the coaching staff.
"It will be fantastic to have someone of his ability, experience and knowledge at the club."
The former Fulham and Derby man also confirmed that he will look to bring in a young goalkeeper to provide competition for Poole.
"We will be bringing in a young keeper and it is superb that he will have a role model like Kevin, but the pair of them will have to fight it out for a place in the team," he added.
