Morecambe 2-1 Burton Albion: Report

09 April 2011 17:34
Brewers slump continues Burton's relegation fears deepened as they crashed to a 2-1 defeat at Morecambe. Sammy McIlroy's side took the lead after 13 minutes. Phil Jevons crossed from the left, James Spencer volleyed back across goal and Chris McCready was in the right place at the right time to score from close range. Burton came back in the second half with Jacques Maghoma twice firing wide before Danny Carlton doubled the Shrimps' advantage with a superb finish in the 67th minute. The Burton defence failed to clear and Carlton let fly with a stunning right-foot volley that beat Adam Legzdins to his right. Burton came back strongly however and pulled a goal back 12 minutes from time after a smart move. Maghoma exchanged passes with Adam Bolder and then slotted the ball under Barry Roche for a neat finish. Carlton had two good chances to add to the Shrimps' tally and Burton came close to an injury-time equaliser when Sam Winnall's overhead kick flew inches wide of the left hand post.
