Maynard absent for Albion

Burton were dealt a blow this week ahead of their League One opener against Scunthorpe with the news that Kelvin Maynard will miss the entire 2015-16 campaign through injury.

The defender suffered knee ligament damage last weekend in an innocuous-looking tangle with Derby midfielder Jamie Hanson during the pre-season friendly at the Pirelli Stadium.

Zeli Ismail, back on loan at Albion, is a slight doubt with a knee problem but the Wolves winger is expected to be included in the squad. Ismail is one of 11 new signings made by Burton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink over the summer.

Jon McLaughlin is suspended following his red card on the final day of last season so Remi Matthews, also back at the club on loan from Norwich, is in line to make his Football League debut.

Scunthorpe manager Mark Robins hopes to have a fully fit squad at his disposal.

Paddy Madden will lead the attack, 48 hours after extending his stay with the club until June 2018, while there could be up to 10 new signings making their full league debut for the Iron following a busy summer at Glanford Park.

Robins will have a positive selection headache over which players to choose for the curtain raiser, with Scunthorpe remaining unbeaten throughout the whole of pre-season.

Twenty-five players in his squad got crucial game time under their belts prior to the season commencing.
