Brewers held by Grecians

Adam McGurk's first goal since November enabled high-flying Burton to salvage a 1-1 draw against Exeter.

The striker came to the rescue with his ninth goal of the season two minutes after an own goal by home skipper Ian Sharps.

McGurk was denied by Artur Krysiak's sprawling save and then by Pat Baldwin's clearance a yard out as Burton made a lively start.

And there was another escape for the Grecians when Matt Palmer's six-yard header was deflected over with 20 minutes gone.

The visitors had goals disallowed for pushing and offside but it was Burton who controlled the first half, with McGurk out of luck again when he looped a 10-yard shot too high from Zeli Ismail's cross.

Exeter showed more attacking intent after the break but enjoyed a slice of luck when they took the lead in the 56th minute.

Home goalkeeper Dean Lyness did well to parry John O'Flynn' scorching shot only for the ball to bounce into the net off Sharps.

However, Burton were level within two minutes when the persistent McGurk stroked home Ismail's cross from the edge of the area.

Scot Bennett then wasted a chance to put Exeter back in front when he fired over from six yards as the clash finished all square.
