Five-star Burton rally to beat Colchester

Burton came from behind to record their biggest win of the Sky Bet League One season so far in a 5-1 crushing of managerless Colchester.

The poor defending that cost Tony Humes his job was again in evidence as Nasser El Khayati, Mark Duffy, Tom Naylor, Lucas Akins and Timmy Thiele netted for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's promotion chasers.

The Us made the perfect start when Charlton loanee Callum Harriott latched onto Gavin Massey's cross to find the bottom corner from 20 yards in the fourth minute.

But the joy of caretaker manager Richard Hall was shortlived, Burton hitting back in stunning style in the 25th minute as El Khayati bent in a 25-yard free kick.

Duffy gave the hosts the lead nine minutes later when his deflected shot wrong-footed keeper Jamie Jones.

The visitors' defensive woes continued six minutes after the break as Frankie Kent's attempted clearance bounced off Naylor and past a despairing Jones.

Akins notched Burton's fourth from 12 yards in the 73rd minute and fellow substitute Thiele completed the rout nine minutes from the end with a close-range header.
