Maghoma gets Burton going

Jacques Maghoma revived Burton's promotion challenge with both goals in a 2-0 win against Wycombe.

The Congolese midfielder's double lifted Gary Rowett's side back into the top three as they erased the memory of Friday's 7-1 humiliation at Port Vale with their first win in five games.

Maghoma struck twice after the break to take his tally for the season to 17.

Neither goalkeeper was tested until Wycombe's Matt Ingram got down smartly to hold Maghoma's follow-up shot after he had drilled a free-kick into the defensive wall in the 26th minute.

Maghoma also flashed a low shot across the face of goal and Michael Symes failed to hit the target with a header from a good position as Burton made almost all of the running.

They made the breakthrough in the 49th minute when Wycombe defender Michael Harriman made a hash of his attempted clearance and Maghoma pounced to drive an angled shot past Ingram, who then had to make a stunning one-handed save to deny Billy Kee shortly afterwards.

Harriman was at fault again with a stray pass that gave Maghoma the chance to burst clear and double Burton's lead with a clinical finish in the 68th minute.
