Conor Washington stars as Peterborough beat Burton

Conor Washington was the Peterborough hero in a 3-0 FA Cup romp at Burton.

The midfielder struck twice as Posh turned the tables on their League One rivals to avenge an early-season defeat.

The victory was marred only by a straight red card in added time for substitute Jack Baldwin after an ugly lunge at Burton full-back Phil Edwards.

Washington gave the visitors the lead against the run of play three minutes before the break when he raced onto a Michael Smith pass to fire home from six yards.

Chances came at both ends early in the second half, Ben Alnwick tipping over an Edwards header at one end and dangerman Washington lobbing agonisingly wide of an empty Burton net.

Home goalkeeper Remi Matthews did well to tip Jon Taylor's deflected shot onto the crossbar and produced a stunning reflex save to keep out a header by the same player.

However, there was nothing the Norwich loanee could do to prevent Washington from doubling Posh's lead after a defensive mistake by Edwards after 70 minutes.

And victory was sealed by Jermaine Anderson's close-range finish six minutes from the end.
