Guttridge stunner fires Shots to victory

Combative midfielder Luke Guttridge produced a stunning left-footed volley as Aldershot made it three league wins in a row by comfortably beating Burton 2-0 at the Rec.

The 29-year-old's effort was the second in a decisive six-minute spell at the end of the first half, with Jermaine McGlashan scoring a rare header after a pin-point cross from Adam Smith.

Burton, who needed just a point before kick-off to move into the play-off places, never really looked like salvaging something out of the game after the break.

Despite dominating the opening stages the Shots struggled to trouble Brewers goalkeeper Ross Atkins but with seven minutes to go until the break they took a deserved lead.

Winger Smith cut in from the left and curled in a cross in for McGlashan to nod in his third of the season and second on the bounce.

Aldershot made it two soon after as Darren Moore's headed clearance was expertly volleyed in by Guttridge from just outside the box.

The Shots continued to dominate the second half but were unable to add to their advantage with Calvin Zola's goal-line clearance from Michael Rankine's header their best effort.
