Woolmer to end Turf Moor year again

Northants referee Andy Woolmer is the man in charge of this afternoon's game against Scunthorpe and his only previous Turf Moor game was for the final game of the year. That was five years ago when Sheffield Wednesday came and beat us 2-1 on New Year's Eve when both their goalscorers went on to play for us. A certain Chris Eagles gave them an early lead with Graham Coughlan making it 2-0 early in the second half.A Garreth O'Connor penalty six minutes from time reduced the arrears and that penalty proved significant for two reasons. It proved to be O'Connor's last league goal for Burnley and it was also the last penalty we were awarded until 27th April 2007 when Trevor Kettle gave us one at Sunderland. But we couldn't give Woolmer any credit for it. O'Connor had been brought down by Nicky Weaver but astonishingly Woolmer was waving his yellow card at the Burnley midfielder for diving before the assistant intervened and awarded the spot kick. His only other game saw us come from 1-0 down to win at QPR in November 2008 with goals from Robbie Blake and Alan Mahon.Other than the penalty he's had two decent enough games and he's not a referee who is likely to go over the top with cards. This season, in 16 games, he's yellow carded 39 players with 20 of them going to home team players and 19 to away team players. To add to that he's sent off three players with two of them in Notts County's 3-2 League One win at Peterborough.Woolmer's last game was Barnet's 2-0 home win against Accrington in League Two which brought six yellow cards. Glen Southam, Steven Kabba, Izale McLeod and Jake Cole (all Barnet) found their names in his notebook as did Kevin Long, currently on loan at Accrington from Burnley, and his Stanley team mate Terry Gornell.Woolmer currently sits in 12th place in the Rate the Ref Table. The assistant referees today are Ian Siddall (Lancashire) and Oliver Yates (Staffordshire). The fourth official is Paul Kettlewell (Lancaster). Previous Burnley games:SeasonOppsVResYRBurnley players cardeda2005/06Sheffield Wedh1-210.2008/09QPRa2-140Gudjonsson Jordan McDonald
