Wolves join Bolton and Birmingham in Fletcher queue

A year ago there were long queues at the ticket office at Turf Moor as fans waited patiently, and at times not so patiently, to get their hands on Wembley tickets for our play off final against Sheffield United. One year on, and faced with relegation back to the Championship, the only queue appears to be the one building for our striker Steven Fletcher who has just completed his first season with the Clarets after moving down from Hibs last summer.Fletcher cost us £3 million in June 2009, and has gone on to play in all but three of our Premier League games during the 2009/10 season, missing the trip to Arsenal and the home games against Stoke and Wolves after breaking a bone in his hand on Scotland duty. He's scored eight goals for us in the league. His first came in a 2-1 home win against Birmingham and he also scored in the 3-3 draw at Manchester City although the others all came in defeats.Bolton, hardly surprisingly, were the first club to show an interest when our relegation was confirmed. Using their usual source of the Daily Mirror they expressed an interest but that was quickly followed up by Birmingham boss Alex McLeish who had worked with Fletcher whilst in charge of Scotland.Today, we can add Wolves to that list with a suggestion they are prepared to offer £6 million for him, which at least should blow the Horwich lot out of the water. It's good money we might be talking here, but like most Burnley supporters I'd much prefer to see Steven Fletcher pulling on our claret and blue number nine shirt again come August. He's had a very impressive first season with us and I'd certainly like him to stay for the remaining three years on his contract at least.Time will tell, and sometimes it's not the money but the fact that a player is keen to move on, particularly if it is a chance to stay in the Premier League. If we can't hold on to him then we have to get the sort of fee that would at least confirm we've done some good business.
