Wilcox pleased with summer progress

urnley assistant boss Russ Wilcox believes the squad being assembled at Turf Moor will prove a formidable force next season.

The Clarets have recruited striker Chris Iwelumo and midfielder Dean Marney, as well as retaining the core of last season's squad thus far.

Wilcox accepts the sale of striker Steven Fletcher was a blow to the club's hopes of making an immediate return to the top flight, but he remains in buoyant mood.

"We are pleased with the work we've done so far this summer," Wilcox told the club's official website.

"We are still moving and have targets to look at. But I think the two signings we've made up to yet are excellent signings and both bring something different to the table.

"You can look at the squad and if there was a game tomorrow we could put a very good team out."
