Whittingham - interest but no offer

Burnley have confirmed an interest in Cardiff City's Peter Whittingham but, despite speculation, it hasn't gone as far as an offer having been made. Whilst neither club have commented on any offers, it was widely reported that the Clarets had tabled a bid of £1.75 million for a player who played for us on loan during the 2004/05 season. That was followed up by suggestions that Cardiff had turned it down and were wanting in the region of £3 million for the former Aston Villa and England Under-21 player who netted no fewer than 20 league goals last season as Cardiff reached the Championship play off final at Wembley. However, despite Burnley being keen on him they haven't as yet made an offer and he remains just one of a number of players we are looking at as we build a squad ahead of the 2010/11 season.Whittingham has been at Cardiff since January 2007 and has just one year remaining on his contract. If he remains with the Welsh club, where of course he can at least get sent off without worrying about a suspension, he could leave next summer with them unable to get a fee for him.
