Webb is today's referee for Doncaster game

Before you get too concerned that the self important Howard Webb will be striding onto Turf Moor for today's Boxing Day clash, I'd better point out that David Webb from Sunderland will be the man in charge this afternoon.

It will be his third Burnley game in what is his fourth season as a Football League referee. Last season he refereed our away game at Coventry and then, in April, the home win against Swansea City. He had something of a nightmare at Coventry but turned in a much better performance in the Swansea game, although Swansea themselves were far from happy with his awarding of a penalty for a push on Jay Rodriguez that led to our winning goal.

That winner, scored by Chris Eagles, was the last league penalty we scored (Eagles missed from the spot at Derby in the next game) and we've not been awarded one in a home league game since.

He's a referee that seems to average around three yellow cards per game and that's continued this season. In 21 games so far there have been 67 yellow cards and 4 red cards.

Of those yellows, 29 have gone to home team players and 38 to away team players whilst three of the four red cards have gone the way of away team players.

He's refereed five Championship games this season. There have been no red cards in them but 17 yellow cards including a couple in his last game which was at Portman Road last Saturday in Ipswich's 1-0 win against Derby. Jamie Ward and James Bailey (both Derby) were the two players carded.

David Webb currently stands in 38th place in the RATE THE REF table with a rating of 60.07 out of 100.

The assistant referees are Paul Graham (Manchester) and Joe Hull (Cheshire). The fourth official is Darren Handley (Lancashire).
