Wallace's Blackpool free kick is monthly winner

Last week saw the vote for the October Goal of the Month and it was the free kick from Ross Wallace in the home win over Blackpool that took first place, and by some margin.

Wallace's goal came just before the half hour in the televised clash and gave us a 2-0 lead against the Seasiders. It came when Stephen Crainey gave away a free kick for handball on the edge of the penalty box, one in which he was fortunate to survive a red card.

Having fought off Andre Amougou's attempts to take it, Wallace hit the free kick into the top right hand corner, giving goalkeeper Matt Gilks no hope of saving it.

The goal won a massive 73.2% of the poll and left the other five goals scrambling for just over a quarter of the remaining vote.

It was the first goal in that Blackpool game that came second with 14.9% of the vote. That was the Charlie Austin header from a Junior Stanislas cross from the right following a short corner routine between Wallace and Stanislas.

Wallace, involved in both goals, then took third place with the equaliser at Coventry. Played in when Austin stepped over a ball he made no mistake with just the goalkeeper to beat and hit his shot into the top corner of the net.

But it is his goal against Blackpool that joins the previous monthly winners this season, the Carling Cup goals for Charlie Austin against Burton Albion (August) and Andre Amougou versus MK Franchise (September). All three goals will feature in the Goal of the Season vote in May.
