Alex MacDonald has received another call up for Scotland Under-21s whilst central defender Kevin Long has been placed on standby for the Republic of Ireland at the same level. Alex MacDonald wins another under-21 call

MacDonald is a regular in the Scottish squad now and this latest call up comes for two European qualifying games against Luxembourg and Austria. Alex is in a 21-man squad with no less than 17 of them currently playing their football in the Scottish leagues. The other three English based players are midfielders Tom Cairney (Hull), Liam Palmer (Sheffield Wednesday) and Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes.

The first of the two games will be played on Thursday 6th October in the Josy Barthel Stadium Luxembourg with the second on the following Monday at St. Mirren.

The Republic of Ireland face Liechtenstein in Eschen on Tuesday 11th October. They've named a squad of just 16 players with two more to be added and Long is one of the players placed on standby.

Long is currently on loan at Accrington Stanley where he has made 11 first team appearances this season. It is his first call up since 2009, this whilst he was still with Cork City, but he's still to make his debut for his country.
