Turf Moor trouble for Gudjonsson
urnley have announced the suspension of Joey Gudjonsson for two weeks pending a full investigation following his comments about Brian Laws.[LNB] An Icelandic website quoted Gudjonsson questioning the team's spirit under Laws ahead of their 4-1 Premier League victory at Hull on Saturday.[LNB]The 29-year-old, whose contract with the Clarets expires this summer, attended an internal disciplinary hearing on Monday.[LNB]The Iceland international was reported to have told fotbolti.net: "He (Laws) lost the dressing room long ago.[LNB]"I think all the players have lost faith in him, the performances say all that has to be said."[LNB]Prior to the Hull result - Burnley's first triumph on the road in the Premier League all season - the team had won just once in 13 league games since Laws' appointment in January.[LNB]In their previous match just over a week ago, the Clarets slumped to a humiliating 6-1 defeat at home against Manchester City and they remain four points from safety in 18th place with four fixtures remaining.[LNB]With reference to the City game, Gudjonsson was quoted as saying: "This shows that the guys do not believe in what he is doing."[LNB]Laws had to endure speculation that his job was under threat in the build-up to Saturday's game at the KC Stadium and dismissed rumours that he had fallen out with various members of his squad.[LNB]The manager denied there had been a bust-up between himself and Robbie Blake after he had taken the veteran forward off at half-time during the City match, while midfielder Kevin McDonald was fined by the club for leaving Turf Moor without permission having also been substituted at the interval in the same game.[LNB]Speaking after the win at Hull, Laws said: "Externally it was very difficult, because the media were very much on our backs, particularly mine.[LNB]"I'm a cheap shot at the moment, very easy to get at because we were not winning games.[LNB]"The manner in which we lost the (City) game was a difficult one because you ask questions about yourself.[LNB]"You get cheap shots in a newspaper from a player (Gudjonsson) which doesn't help the cause.[LNB]"It's disappointing to see a player put remarks in the paper who has not even been involved in the team, in the squad and isn't even going to be here next season.[LNB]"But the players have responded in the right manner and answered those questions."[LNB]Gudjonsson joined Burnley from Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar in 2007 having previously spent time in England with Aston Villa, Wolves and Leicester.[LNB]He has made 14 appearances for the Clarets this season - mainly as a substitute - but has featured only twice since Laws succeeded Owen Coyle at Turf Moor and has not played for the first team in over two months.[LNB]Burnley will be making no further comment on the matter at this stage.
