Trotman joins Rochdale

Former youth player Neal Trotman has signed for Rochdale this week after being released by Preston North End at the finish of the 2010/11 season. Trotman left Turf Moor six years ago at the end of his two-year apprenticeship with the youth team and it was another year, because of an injury, before he was snapped up by Oldham Athletic. He spent some time on loan at Halifax before breaking into the Oldham team where his form earned him a big money move to Preston. That move was in January 2008 but Neal was never able to establish himself at Deepdale and most of his football was played in League One during loan spells at Colchester, Southampton, Huddersfield and more recently back at Oldham. Earlier this month he was spotted by some eagle eyed Clarets on Doncaster training pictures. Whether or not they made him any offer was not made public but Rochdale certainly did and Neal has signed a two-year deal at Spotland. On signing he said: "I'm very pleased to have put pen to payer and to be honest I just want to improve and I believe I'm at the right club to do that. "There was interest from a couple of clubs and one of the things that swung it for me was the management team. I have heard some very good things about them, their coaching methods and the way they want to play. "The lads who I've spoken to say it's a very good club, well run and with a real family atmosphere and that also appealed to me."
