Treacy and Boyd could be heading to Turf Moor

After much speculation, it looks as though Burnley could be set to add to the squad this week with permanent signings and Preston's Keith Treacy and George Boyd from Peterborough appear to be top of the list. The interest in Treacy has been one of the worst kept secrets since we made what was considered to be a casual enquiry in early June. That was stepped up and all the talk around Turf Moor on Saturday was that he was on his way to Burnley. That speculation mounted when he was left out of the Preston side yesterday afternoon for their friendly against Wigan and after the game Preston confirmed that they'd accepted an offer for him. The news came via the League One club's rugby league chairman Maurice Lindsay, who said: "We made our manager aware of the fact that we had a significant cash offer from Burnley for Keith. "A discussion was held with our owner, Mr Trevor Hemmings, who made it quite clear that we needed to seriously consider the offer to assist the cash problems at the club." Lindsay added: "Burnley's offer today was conditional upon an immediate agreement which meant Keith would be unable to play today (for Preston). I suppose they were making sure that he avoided any injury. Either way we had no option." He continued: "I have personally turned down there offers from Burnley for Keith but their final offer had to be accepted as it will help the owner to lower his investment and keep the club in business. No one wants to sell players who have any quality, as Keith does, but we are in the harsh reality of trying to stay alive." Burnley, later confirmed the deal and that Treacy would discuss personal terms today, Monday. As for Boyd, that speculation has come from Sky after Barry Fry, Peterborough's director of football, revealed they had received an offer for the player and they believe that to be from Burnley. Who knows? Boyd looks a possible but Treacy looks set to become Burnley's first permanent signings since Marvin Bartley who arrived right at the end of the January transfer window.
