Thorn in their side

Coventry City sacked manager Aidy Boothroyd last month, just ahead of their game at the Turf against the Clarets. They arrived with chief scout Andy Thorn in charge and yesterday he was given the job on a permanent basis. Coventry played well that night at Burnley, going home with a point from a 2-2 draw. They lost their next game at Preston but since Thorn took charge they've won 3 and drawn 3 whilst losing just 2.Those results, allied with a change of style, have won him the job full time and chairman Ken Dulieu said that Thorn, a player with Crystal Palace, Wimbledon and Newcastle, deserved his chance after transforming the style of the team and improving the results under difficult circumstances.A delighted Thorn, winner of an FA Cup winners medal for Wimbledon in 1988, said: "I have really enjoyed the spell in temporary charge and am relishing the opportunity to shape the team over the longer term."
