Thompson pens new Clarets deal

Striker Steven Thompson has pledged his future to Burnley after agreeing a new 12-month contract with the relegated Clarets.

The 31-year-old netted five goals in as many games towards the end of a Premier League season which ended in relegation for the Turf Moor club.

He has now followed Michael Duff, Clarke Carlisle and Graham Alexander in signing a new deal at the Championship-bound outfit.

"He did really well last season and I'm delighted that he has agreed to stay," manager Brian Laws told the club's official website.

"He's a player who is well liked at the football club who I think will make a mark again next season.

"I am delighted to have that experience in the squad and again he is a player who knows what's required to get out of the Championship."
