Steven Thompson, Kevin McDonald and Michael King were three of the players released by manager Eddie Howe as the 2010/11 season came to a close, and all three have opportunities to look at before the new season. Thompson spoke of his three years at Burnley and highlighted the first of them; a season that ended with him scoring that spectacular goal in the play off semi-final at Reading before starting in the final. In an interview with the Burnley Express he described it as a magical time and also said he enjoyed scoring some goals in the Premier League in the following season. Thompson admitted that this last season was one he wanted to erase from his memory and said there was little he could do when neither manager was prepared to give him a run in the team."All the people at the club are fantastic, and obviously the fans," he said. "I've had a great rapport with them. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here and I leave with fond memories."Thompson, for me, was one of Owen Coyle's best signings for Burnley and he's now heading home to Scotland where he believes he has three years left of playing regularly in the SPL. Hibs are favourites to sign him although St. Mirren, who made an approach for him in January, are still showing a keen interest.McDonald, admitting to fans last week at the player of the year evening that he couldn't wait to get away from Burnley, suggested that he might be close to signing a deal with another English club.Meanwhile there has been some real interest in 19-year-old Michael King with at least three clubs wanting to take a look at him, including one who could be playing in the Championship next season.
