TEAMtalk Predicts: Burnley v Hull

30 October 2009 13:01
We've made our predictions for the full season at TEAMtalk Towers but we know you can't wait that long to prove us wrong so we're giving you the chance to do it once a week.[LNB]We'll pick out one of the big Premier League games every weekend and one of our 'experts' will attempt to predict the result and scoreline. But we'll also get a prediction from a fan of each club to find out who knows the most about the beautiful game - TEAMtalk or the fans.[LNB]It's one point for a correct result and three if you can nail the right score, and we're keeping a tally so you can all see just now much we know (or don't know). Feel free to send in your own predictions too - and of course messages to compliment us on another job well done![LNB]Last Time Out[LNB]Our last stab at a prediction came two weeks ago when Sunderland hosted Liverpool and for the second time in a row - we tipped the Reds to get a point at Chelsea - Rafa Benitez's side let us down.[LNB]The Merseysiders were bidding to avoid back-to-back league defeats for the first time since December 2007 and our man Mark Holmes was sure they'd do just that and pick up a win but, unfortunately, he was wrong.[LNB]Darren Bent, sorry the beachball's, first-half goal was enough to earn Sunderland all three points at the Stadium of Light and that has left us struggling just as much as Liverpool.[LNB]We have picked out some tough games but we're still supposedly 'experts', so three points at this stage of the season is pretty shocking to say the least. Remarkably we'd managed to keep our place at the top of the table going into week seven but that's all changed now after Sunderland fan Mick Colman picked up a maximum three points with his 1-0 prediction.[LNB]That leaves the hosts on five points, with TEAMtalk in second on three and the visitors propping up the table with two.[LNB]Week Seven - Burnley v Hull (Saturday, 3pm)[LNB]The headlines this week have been dominated by Phil Brown so it seemed the obvious choice to feature the Tigers' trip to Turf Moor.[LNB]The game is reportedly one of two that Brown has been given to save his job so all eyes will be on East Lancashire on Saturday to see whether everyone's favourite orange lookalike can get a result.[LNB]An already tough trip has been made more difficult by the absence of Boaz Myhill, but the Clarets could also be without their first-choice goalkeeper as Brian Jensen continues to struggle with an ankle injury.[LNB]Burnley have an otherwise unchanged squad to pick from, while Hull will hope Jimmy Bullard recovers from yet another injury setback to play some part.[LNB]Match Facts[LNB]Hull are currently third from bottom in the Premier League having picked up just four points from the last 24, and another defeat on Saturday would leave them deep in relegation trouble.[LNB]Burnley on the other hand are in a comfortable 11th position, four points clear of the Tigers and the bottom three. However Owen Coyle's side suffered their first home defeat of their season last weekend - they had previously won 10 in a row at Turf Moor - and could slip into trouble with another reverse.[LNB]They will be mindful of the fact they have lost their last three games against Hull, although they do lead 21-18 in total clashes between the sides and are facing a side that has not won in 10 away games in the league.[LNB]Predictions[LNB]TEAMtalk - Rob McCarthy: If you're to believe what the papers say then Phil Brown has got two games to save his job at Hull, and picking up points at Turf Moor will certainly prove to be a tough ask for his struggling Tigers.[LNB]The wheels came off Burnley's previously impeccable home record when they lost to Wigan last Saturday, but boss Owen Coyle recognises the Clarets must pick up the majority of their points on their home patch if they're to have any hope of staying up, so they'll be desperate to bounce straight back.[LNB]Influential Burnley goalkeeper Brian Jensen will be given every chance to recover from an ankle injury, while David Nugent could reinforce the attack. Hull will be without keeper Boaz Myhill and Jimmy Bullard is a big doubt for the game - giving the Clarets a likely edge in midfield.[LNB]Neither side will want to lose this one so it's tempting to tip up a draw but I reckon Coyle's boys will have just enough in their locker to tame the Tigers and win 2-1.[LNB]Burnley fan - Chris Semple: We all got brought back to reality when Wigan beat us at Turf Moor last weekend but I think that will make it even harder for Hull.[LNB]We obviously aren't going to win too many away games this season so there's no way Owen Coyle will want us losing two in a row at home and I'd be amazed if we did to be honest because Hull look poor from what I've seen.[LNB]I'm sure our lads won't be taking them lightly and they have got one or two decent players going forward but Stephen Fletcher got his first league goal for us against Wigan and I reckon he'll kick on from it. I'm predicting a fairly comfortable 2-0 - and the sack for Phil Brown![LNB]Hull fan - Toby Harker: There's no getting away from the fact that we've been poor this season, and we were poor for a fair bit of the last one too.[LNB]Phil Brown has still got his fair share of supporters but I'm one of those that think he's taken us as far as he can go and I'm praying we do get rid of him if we lose on Saturday.[LNB]I honestly don't know what to expect from us against Burnley because you'd think everyone would be fired up, but then again you'd have thought that last week against Portsmouth.[LNB]I just get the feeling the players aren't playing for Brown any more but there's got to be some sort of reaction to Paul Duffen leaving so I think we'll scrape a 1-1 draw.
