Team of the Seventies return for Adamson

It's Jimmy Adamson's day at Turf Moor today with the opening of the Jimmy Adamson Suite at Turf Moor ahead of kick off. The former Centre Spot, now the 1882 Lounge, was named in Jimmy's honour around a decade ago but the name got lost in time. This time, the room in the centre of the Jimmy McIlroy Stand has been dedicated to the former captain and manager and hosts some of his personal memorabilia including the Football of the Year Trophy he won in 1962, still to this day the only Burnley player to win it.Jimmy was back at Turf Moor not too long ago for his wife May's funeral and yet, on such a sad day, it was a warming sight to see him and Jimmy McIlroy re-united for the first time in years and talking football. It was, earlier in the week, looking very unlikely that Adamson will be able to attend this afternoon due to ill health. He's not at all well now and will be represented by his four grandchildren. There is, however, still a chance, that he will be able to come and it would be wonderful to see a return for someone who gave the club great service with the emphasis very much on the word great.Jimmy made 426 league appearances for Burnley, the fifth highest in post war football behind three of his former team mates - John Angus, Jimmy McIlroy and Tommy Cummings - as well a player he himself signed in Alan Stevenson. He then went on to coach and finally manage Burnley. He was manager for six years with a three year period as good as anything we've seen since the mid-1960s at Turf Moor. That was his 'Team of the Seventies' and it is fantastic so many of that team will be there today to open the new suite. Frank Casper, Mick Docherty, Martin Dobson, Paul Fletcher, Geoff Nulty, Dave Thomas, Jim Thomson and Adamson's captain Colin Waldron will all be at Turf Moor for their former boss.I've always said that if there was one man who could get Jimmy Adamson back to Turf Moor it would be Paul Fletcher. Hopefully, if not today, we'll see Adamson back at Turf Moor very soon.
