Stanislas is big goal of the month winner
There were four choices for the January goal of the month but it ended very much a one horse race as Junior Stanislas' late winner in the home game against Crystal Palace walked it.
He polled 84.4% of the vote and that was the highest return in a goal of the month vote since Jay Rodriguez slalomed his way to a late equaliser at the same Jimmy McIlroy end in last season's 1-1 draw against Peterborough.
The game looked to be heading for a 0-0 draw when Danny Ings got down the right hand side and pulled the ball back.
It reached Stanislas in the D and he took his time before measuring his shot into the top right hand corner.
Only Keith Treacy's opener at Sheffield Wednesday offered any kind of threat. Early in the voting it led the way but not for long although the wide man's first goal in almost 16 months did come in second with a 13.0% share.
The other two goals, as important as they were, came from Sam Vokes and Danny Ings at Millwall but they were very much also rans as Stanislas landed himself a place for the Goal of the Season vote in May.
He will be joined by the other monthly winners which, so far, are Dean Marney (August v Port Vale), Charlie Austin (September v Millwall), Martin Paterson (October v Crystal Palace), Marney (November v Hull) and Ross Wallace (December v Birmingham).
Stanislas is not amongst the candidates yet for the February vote which will be held early next month. There are three goals, from Austin, Paterson and David Edgar in the two games played and we've still three games remaining in the month.
The next vote will be for the man of the match at tonight's home game against Middlesbrough. That will be available from approximately one hour after the final whistle.
