Stalemate at Glanford Park

Eddie Howe could not inspire Burnley to victory in his first game in charge as struggling Scunthorpe's stubborn resistance ensured a goalless draw in the npower Championship match at Glanford Park. Howe, 33, was this week unveiled as Brian Laws' successor but the new Clarets manager could not mark his debut with a victory after substitute Chris Iwelumo saw his 66th-minute header hit a post. Scunthorpe have the worst home record in the Championship, winning just once in front of their own supporters this season, but the result also left Burnley with only one victory on their travels this term. Jay Rodriguez went close from distance before Howe made a tactical switch, replacing Ross Wallace with Iwelumo in the 62nd minute. Four minutes later, the Scotland international almost found the net when he connected with a cross from Chris Eagles and headed against the post. Eagles then curled a 25-yard shot into Josh Lillis' midriff, before Marney headed over from Cork's corner but neither side could break the deadlock.
