Skipper leads Clarets to big win

05 December 2011 11:56
Last Tuesday, for the second time this season, Burnley won a league game by four clear goals. In September we beat Nottingham Forest 5-1 and six days ago it was Ipswich who were beaten 4-0 in a one sided game at Turf Moor.

There were several outstanding individual performances as we recorded only our third home league win of the season, but none more so than captain Chris McCann who was in sensational form in the midfield and added to his performance with two goals.

Scoring against Ipswich on the Turf is something McCann has become accustomed to. He's now scored in our last three wins against the Tractor Boys with his first ever goal in 2005 and a late winner a year later to add to his brace last week.

This recent performance, coupled with the goals, won him the man of the match vote and the player ratings.

He polled 41.0% of the vote for the man of the match and that was way ahead of right back Kieran Trippier who came in second with 18.9% of the vote whilst Jay Rodriguez took third place with a 13.2% share.

The same three players won the first three places in the player ratings too. Again McCann was the winner  with a rating of 8.77 out of 10. This time it was Rodriguez in second place. His rating was 8.54 - whilst a rating of 8.23 out of 10 gave Trippier third place.

Such was the quality of the performance that the lowest rating was as high as 6.71 out of 10. That went to Lee Grant who had virtually nothing to do all night.

McCann wins six points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year whilst both Rodriguez and Trippier pick up three points each.

The points haven't affected the leadership with Marvin Bartley still 13 points clear but the next four players are now separated by just one point and McCann has moved up to joint ninth place in the table.

Voting is currently underway for the West Ham game. You can vote for the man of the match from either the front page of the site or from the VOTING POLLS page and you can leave your PLAYER RATINGS on the message board.

The vote ends at the end of Tuesday and from Wednesday you will have the opportunity to vote for the November Goal of the Month with a choice of 11 goals.

Below is the result from the Ipswich game and the current Player of the Year Table.
