Shackell - no bid say Barnsley

The tabloid reporting that Jason Shackell was holding talks with Portsmouth have been dismissed by the South Yorkshire club today. The local media in Barnsley are reporting that they have no offers for Shackell other than the two from Derby County, both of £700,000, that were turned down. Reports yesterday suggested Shackell was in talks with Pompey boss Steve Cotterill but a source for Barnsley Football Club confirmed: "There have been no approaches for Jason other than from Derby, both of which were turned down." It does look increasingly likely that the Tykes' club captain will be on the move after just one year at Oakwell but new boss Keith Hill is keen to keep the defender. "He's a very good player," said Hill. "I'm looking to speak with him before pre-season training to talk about the future." Shackell currently remains under contract to Barnsley until the summer of 2013.
