Second season starts at Turf Moor for referee Brown

East Yorkshire referee Mark Brown will start his second season in the Football League at Turf Moor tomorrow and he'll be ensuring he doesn't land himself in trouble again with his bosses as he did in his debut season. Brown took it upon himself to have a joke at Liverpool's expense on Twitter and for his actions was suspended for three weeks by refs boss Mike Riley and banned from using social networking sites. That was in February of this year and by then he'd refereed his first ever Championship game at Portman Road between Ipswich and Doncaster a month earlier. On his return, his second game was as a late replacement for Andy Haines when Burnley visited Ashton Gate to face Bristol City. He was a bit over keen with his cards at times and there were six in all. Otherwise his performance wasn't so bad and he received a rating of 56.25 in Rate The Ref which sees him currently in 37th place. That Bristol City v Burnley game saw his highest return of the season in terms of yellow cards and in 25 games in his first season he handed out a total of 68 alongside five red cards. Those yellow cards were evenly distributed with 35 going to home team players and 33 to away team players. Whatever sort of game he has tomorrow, I don't think he'll be commenting on it afterwards nor on any of the players taking part. The assistant referees are Peter Bankes and Jonathan Hunt (both Liverpool). The fourth official is Matthew Bristow (Manchester).
