Second Burnley game this season for Ilderton

07 January 2011 14:15
Referee Eddie Ilderton, from Tyne & Wear, will referee his second Burnley game this season tomorrow against Port Vale having previously refereed our away game at Sheffield United. In total it will be Ilderton's eighth Burnley game and overall there have been few problems with him other than his handling of our game at Coventry in January 2008 when he had a nightmare and allowed himself to be influenced far too much by Coventry midfielder Dennis Wise.Other than that he's not caused us too many problems and could be something of a lucky omen when it comes to penalties. In those eight previous games he's awarded us no less than five penalties including the one that Chris Eagles converted at Bramall Lane in October.Although there have never been a shortage of cards in his previous games we shouldn't expect too many given his overall record. This season he's averaging just over two yellow cards per game with 37 in 17 games and there have also been four red cards.Of those yellow cards, 16 have gone the way of home team players and 21 to away team players. The four red cards have come in pairs. In Bury's home win against Accrington in October there was one player sent off from each side, and that was repeated later in the month in Oldham's 4-2 home victory over Plymouth.Ilderton's last game was on Monday in League Two with Rotherham's 2-0 win at Macclesfield. Two Rotherham players, Marcus Marshall and Dale Tonge were yellow carded.Eddie Ilderton was the very first referee to come under the Clarets Mad RATE THE REF microscope when he refereed our home win against West Brom on the opening day of the 2007/08 season. A rating of 71.78 has him currently in 13th place out of 46.Tomorrow the assistant referees are Scott Duncan (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) and Stephen Smith (Co Durham). The fourth official is Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire).
