He didn't have a bad game either in that draw against Wednesday. He won himself a rating of 74.50 out of 100 in the RATE THE REF Table and that sees him in 13th place.
Coote took up refereeing at a young age, giving up an opportunity to play cricket professionally. He progressed through the leagues and joined the Football League ahead of the 2010/11 season while also making his way as the Referee Development Officer with the Notts FA.
Just before the end of 2012 he moved to join the Manchester FA in the same role and is now responsible for managing all referees, assessors and tutors within the county.
In his active role as a referee he has continued this season at the steady rate of around three yellow cards per game, a figure he was close to in each of his first two seasons.
This season has seen him hand out 85 yellow cards in 28 games, with ten of those games in the Championship. A total of 32 of those cards have gone to home team players and 53 to away team players. There have also been four red cards, all of which have come in the bottom two divisions.
His tenth and most recent Championship game this season, which was also his last game, was Birmingham's 1-0 win at Middlesbrough a week last Saturday. The two players yellow carded were Birmingham's Ravel Morrison and Nikola Zigic.
The assistant referees are Martin Coy (Durham) and Paul Rees (Somerset). The fourth official is John Hopkins (Essex).
