Scotland rule out striker Fletcher

Burnley striker Steven Fletcher has broken a bone in his hand while training with the rest of the Scotland squad and will miss the friendly international against Czech Republic on Wednesday.

The former Hibernian star has returned to Turf Moor for treatment but faces a race against time to be fit for Saturday's Premier League game against Arsenal.

"He's been for an X-ray and is coming back to us," Clarets boss Brian Laws told the club's official website. "We need to get it checked out again, but we feel confident that he will be available to play at the weekend with some sort of cast."

Meanwhile, James McFadden hopes he will be fit enough to face the Czechs despite picking up a groin injury during Birmingham City's 1-0 win against Wigan Athletic.

"I felt it a bit again on Saturday and then it went away but I got taken off as a precaution," he said. "It's more prevention rather than being injured, but we will see how it goes.

"I am desperate to play as I want to play for my country and it would be nice to show the new manager what I can do, but I am sure he has watched me play before."
