Roy plays down Zamora comments

Hodgson was widely quoted this week claiming Zamora was a player who could earn a call-up to Fabio Capello's World Cup squad - a link he said he did not make.[LNB]Hodgson said: "I was asked whether there was space in Capello's squad for a player who comes in from the left - how anyone can interpret that as me saying he should play for England is almost laughable.[LNB]"I've been a national coach in three countries and the thing I hated most was a club coach saying I should pick his player. I have vowed never to do that and I never will.[LNB]"There's an awful long way between saying what I said and touting Bobby Zamora to play for England."[LNB]But Hodgson was still keen to praise Zamora's performance after he struck the visitors ahead before Wade Elliott volleyed Burnley a share of the points.[LNB]Hodgson added: "Bobby is playing well. He had a slight knock at half-time but he managed to carry on and he scored a good goal. He's leading the line very well."[LNB]Hodgson said he was reasonably happy with a point but admitted frustration that his side could not build on a catalogue of missed opportunities in the first half.[LNB]Hodgson added: "It was a difficult place to come and if I'd been offered a point before the game I would have been tempted.[LNB]"But after the way we played in the first half I think I can be a little bit disappointed that we didn't take all three points."[LNB]Burnley boss Owen Coyle said he had "a lot to be pleased about" after the way his side fought back from a goal behind on the back of two tough away defeats.[LNB]Coyle said: "Any point in the Premier League is hard-earned and we picked ourselves up off the floor and scored a great goal and might have added to it.[LNB]"We committed players forward and I felt we showed a lot of qualities today and it could turn out to be a very valuable point.[LNB]"We know the quality in the Premier League and it's a learning curve for us. But the players have an appetite for it and a quality and we play the right way."[LNB]Coyle picked out Chris Eagles for special praise after the midfielder's tireless performance which helped change the game in his side's favour.[LNB]Coyle added: "Eagles was outstanding. He was out on his legs and he gave everything and on that form, if he does it every week, then the world is his oyster."[LNB][LNB][LNB]
