Robbie Blake returns to football

Former Claret Robbie Blake is back in football at the age of 37 since his contract with Doncaster Rovers was terminated in March, over seven months ago.

He's had to drop down the leagues but has signed for Team Northumbria who play in Division One of the Northern League but are struggling third from bottom of the table.

The Little Magician's signing must have given them a lift. It was announced ahead of their home game against Newcastle Benfield on Saturday.

Although Robbie didn't play, because he was not considered fit enough to take part, it inspired them to a 2-1 victory.

Team Northumbria manager Paul Johnson was delighted with the signing. "Robbie is a great signing for us and I'm glad we've finally done the deal," he said.

Team Northumbria's next game comes tomorrow night and an away game against Bishop Auckland with Blake expected to make his debut.

I'll be keeping an eye on their results to see how he's doing, and I can't help wondering how much of an impact a younger and fit Robbie Blake would have on our current team.
