Returning Amougou and Bartley are cup stars
Central defender Andre Amougou, scorer of the winning goal, and midfielder Marvin Bartley, returned to the Burnley team for the Carling Cup tie against MK Franchise and were voted our two best players. For Amougou it was a first start since the 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, after which he was surprisingly left out, whilst Bartley was getting his first start of the season having returned from suspension via the bench at Peterborough. In what was still not the best of team performances they stood out with Amougou winning the man of the match with a 33.5% share of the vote. That was ahead of Bartley who took second place with 27.1%. Kieran Trippier was the only other player to get double figures and his 14.6% share of the vote won him third place. It was another disappointing result in the player ratings with still only six players hitting the average score of six, and that included Chris McCann who came on as a substitute for the last half hour. The top two, Amougou and Bartley, couldn't be split and came out on top with ratings of 6.79 out of 10. Goalkeeper Lee Grant, another returning to the starting line up following the injury to Brian Jensen, came third with a rating of 6.54 out of 10. The results from this game give Amougou the maximum six points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year. Bartley gets five points, his first points of the season, whilst Trippier and Grant both get one point. That one point is enough to stretch Trippier's lead at the top of the table to seven points with just two points separating the next four players.
