Burnley are reported to have made an offer of around £750,000 for McCarthy and the Premier League newcomers could yet test the Accies' resolve with an improved offer for the 18-year-old. Reid has confirmed the Clarets' interest in McCarthy but revealed his determination to keep hold of a player who has previously attracted interest from Celtic and Portsmouth. Reid told The Scotsman: "I don't deny Burnley have made enquiries about James, but it's not right for us at the minute. We know how important an asset he is to us. "There has always been interest in James, it's the nature of the game, and we keep him informed at all times. "I expect to see him at the start of pre-season training next week."
