Referee Gibbs tries again

West Midlands referee Phil Gibbs is scheduled to referee our home game against Watford tomorrow, just as he was for our recent away game at Barnsley.
Gibbs pulled out of the Oakwell game at the end of November and was replaced by Kevin Wright, but three games on and he's once again set for his third Burnley game.
The previous two, like tomorrow, have been at Turf Moor. The first of them saw him have a nightmare afternoon as we beat Norwich 2-1 in what was Eddie Howe's first home league game as Burnley manager.
He made several mistakes with the worst one coming when he allowed Adam Drury to stay on the pitch after a shocking challenge on Tyrone Mears in front of the Longside.
We won that game, but lost the next one he refereed which was last season's home game against Reading. However, he had a much better game such that his RATE THE REF Rating, which was 25.42 after the Norwich game, went up to 41.46 out of 100 and has now left him in 60th place in the table.
He's now in his fifth season in the Football League but is still used more often than not in the lower divisions although tomorrow will be his sixth Championship game this season from what will be his 18th game.
In the 17 games to date, there have been 39 yellow cards and just one red card. Of those yellow cards, 19 have gone to home team players and 20 to away team players. The one player sent off was Bradley Dack of Gillingham in a 1-0 home win against Southend.
Gibbs' last game was the League Two clash between Burton and Accrington last Sunday. Burton won the game 1-0 but the yellow cards were even with one each, Robbie Weir of Burton and Accrington's Aristote Nsiala.
If he referees as he did in last season's Reading game there will be few problems, if it is anything like his performance in the Norwich game then that might not be the case.
The assistant referees are Marvyn Amphlett (Worcestershire) and Simon Barrow (Staffordshire). The fourth official is Ricky Wootton (West Yorkshire).
