Portsmouth join Derby and Burnley in Shackell move

Eddie Howe is hoping to strengthen his defensive options with the signing of former Norwich and Wolves centre half Jason Shackell from Barnsley but is going to face stiff competition from both Derby and Portsmouth. Shackell joined Barnsley from Wolves last summer and was immediately handed the club captaincy from former Claret Stephen Foster. He'd previously also captained Norwich. He had an outstanding season, missing just two games, and is now much sought after. Derby have already had two bids turned down prior to Keith Hill being appointed as the new boss at Oakwell, believed to be around £700,000. The suggestions were that they would like to keep him but with the financial changes being made at Barnsley it is very likely that Shackell will move on and I am led to believe he is a player that Howe is very keen to see at Turf Moor.
