Port Vale for Clarets in cup

28 November 2010 19:46
Burnley have been drawn at home against League Two leaders Port Vale in the third round of this season's FA Cup, our first home draw since we were paired with Arsenal in the same round three years ago. The third round draw is one of the big days on the football calendar; a draw full of drama as you await your team being drawn. Unfortunately, that drama was snatched away this year as our ball, number 9, was the first drawn. We've played Port Vale three times previously in the FA Cup, but the last of those three was thirty years ago in the second round.Prior to that, we'd beaten the then named Burslem Port Vale 3-0 in the second round of the 1897/98 season before travelling to Vale Park for a fourth round tie some considerable time later. That was in the 1976/77 season. Having beaten Lincoln in the third round we were beaten 2-1 at Port Vale with Brian Flynn scoring a late consolation goal from the penalty spot.It was defeat again in 1980/81. This time, having won 1-0 against Scarborough in the first round, we drew 1-1 at home against Port Vale with Eric Potts getting the Burnley equaliser. Our cup hopes ended that season in the replay as we went down 2-0.This season's third round tie is expected to be played on Saturday 8th January 2011.Full Third Round DrawBurnley v Port ValeCoventry v Crystal PalaceBristol City v Sheffield WednesdayFulham v PeterboroughDoncaster v WolvesBrighton or FC United of Manchester v PortsmouthHuddersfield v DoverCrawley or Swindon v DerbyWest Ham v BarnsleyReading v West BromArsenal v LeedsSheffield United v Aston VillaLeicester v Manchester CityBolton v YorkBlackburn v QPRSwansea v ColchesterWycombe v Hereford or LincolnStevenage v NewcastleBurton v MiddlesbroughMillwall v BirminghamSouthampton v BlackpoolWatford v Hartlepool or YeovilChelsea v IpswichSunderland v Notts County or BournemouthScunthorpe v EvertonManchester United v LiverpoolHull v WiganStoke v CardiffTottenham v Charlton or LutonPreston v Nottingham ForestNorwich v Droylsden or Leyton OrientTorquay United v Carlisle
