Pato to remain with the Clarets

National tabloid speculation has again placed former Stoke and Scunthorpe striker Martin Paterson close to a move to Portsmouth ahead of the new season. The speculation appears to be wide of the mark as Paterson looks forward to an injury free season at Turf Moor. He signed a one year extension to his contract last summer, leaving him with two years remaining on his existing deal, and he's hoping to make up for a disappointing 2010/11 season that saw him injured in pre-season and spend just about the entire season injured. Pompey boss Steve Cotterill made a move for him some  weeks ago but that was rebuffed by the club. And he's made another move for him that is believed to be worth around £1.5 million which would, if taken, represent a small profit. He was Owen Coyle's first permanent signing for the Clarets in June 2008 with the fee reported at £1 million plus £300,000 in add ons which almost certainly were activated when we won promotion. Burnley have made it clear that Paterson is not available and that further bids from our former manager would not be welcome. He's expected to play a major part in Eddie Howe's attacking options next season alongside Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez.
