Having revealed yesterday that Danny Lafferty had joined Martin Paterson in the Northern Ireland squad we were soon back down to just one representative for their game against Portugal next week.

Paterson has again withdrawn, as he did for their last two internationals in September, with Burnley confirming there has been no injury and that his comeback is being carefully managed and that he will now remain with the club during the break.

He's one of four players who have pulled out of Michael O'Neill's squad with the Northern Ireland FA confirming that Paterson's withdrawal us due to ongoing fitness issues.

Paterson has played fourteen times for Northern Ireland, twelve of those caps coming since he signed for Burnley in 2008.

However, only three of those caps have come in the last three years.

The first of them was in August 2010 and he's twice played this year, against Norway in February and more recently, in August, against Finland when he scored his first ever international goal from the penalty spot in a game that ended 3-3 at Windsor Park.
