Paterson suffers another injury blow

Just 45 minutes into the new season and striker Martin Paterson is again looking at a stretch out of the side with injury after scans revealed further damage to his thigh. Paterson joined the Clarets in the summer of 2008 and he's yet to have an injury free season. He suffered, but mainly played through, a groin injury in the promotion season but then missed a lot of the Premier League season after being stretchered off in the Carling Cup tie at Barnsley with a serious knee injury. He was in sparkling form in the last couple of months on his return but then the thigh problems started last summer. He missed a lot of the pre-season and looked well short at the start of the season. He was eventually left out and then twice came back only to be ruled out again after just two appearances. A reserve appearance at the end of last season suggested he was going to be OK but two more pre-season games were missed and then, having started the opening league game, he was substituted at half time because he didn't feel 100 per cent. Manager Eddie Howe believed there was no recurrence of the thigh injury and suggested that there wasn't a serious problem, but he went for a scan yesterday which revealed he'd suffered a similar injury to last season. "Martin has re-injured his thigh and will be out for a period of time," Howe said when confirming the news. "We don't know how long that will be but he will receive the best care possible." The manager said he would now look to go into the transfer market to bring in a replacement, this after already confirming that he intended to bring in a replacement for Chris Iwelumo.
